WinSpec/32 by PI Acton is a Windows-based acquisition and analysis package designed for spectroscopy and scientific imaging with Princeton Instruments/Acton hardware. It provides an integrated workflow to control compatible detectors and spectrographs, acquire spectra or images in real time, and perform essential processing and export.

Key capabilities:

  • Direct control of supported Princeton Instruments cameras (e.g., CCD/ICCD/EMCCD) and Acton spectrographs
  • Real-time display and capture of spectra and images with ROI and binning controls
  • Experiment setup including exposure timing, accumulation/averaging, and hardware triggering/synchronization
  • Wavelength calibration and basic spectral processing (baseline, smoothing, peak-centric tools)
  • Kinetics/time-series acquisition for time-resolved measurements
  • Data saving and export to common formats (e.g., SPE, TIFF, ASCII) for downstream analysis

Typical applications include Raman and fluorescence spectroscopy, photoluminescence, plasma diagnostics, and general laboratory spectroscopy. WinSpec/32 is a legacy 32-bit application that remains widely used in established installations; newer setups may consider Princeton Instruments’ LightField as the modern alternative.

WinSpec/32 is developed by PI Acton. The most popular version of this product among our users is 2.5. The name of the program executable file is WinSpec.exe.
